With the arrival of iPhone 4, you may consider selling your existing iPhone and upgrade to the new one. Whether you plan to sell your old iPhone on eBay or through a store, make sure you completely erase all data on your device.
Basically, there are two ways to wipe the data on iPhone and reset it to the factory settings. In this article, I’ll share with you both methods to erase the iPhone data.
But before removing your iPhone data (including contacts, SMS, note, calendar, etc), don’t forget to back them up to your computer via iTunes. By saving a copy of iPhone data onto your PC, this ensures you can restore the data back to your new iPhone.
Backup Your iPhone Data
To backup the data, connect your iPhone through USB and launch iTunes. On the left panel, right click on your iPhone and select “Backup”. iTunes then automatically backs up all your iPhone data.
Erase All Content on your iPhone
Once you complete the backup, go back to your iPhone. Tap “Settings” -> “General” -> “Reset”. Select “Erase All Content and Settings” and tap “Erase iPhone” to confirm. You will see an Apple logo and a progress bar during the data removal process. Once completed, all the data on your iPhone are erased.
Alternatively, you can simply restore the iPhone via iTunes to its original settings. This method can also erase all contents on your iPhone.
