There’s good news for people who hate the hassles involved in booking a cab. UberCab, a new on-demand car service lets you book a cab through an iPhone app or SMS in a matter of seconds. All you need to do is signup for an UberCab, download the free iPhone app, set your location and bingo – you are all set to book a cab! Quick, simple and easy as you like! No more hassles of making calls to a customer service desk.
The app lets you book a cab from your iPhone or through the web. You can even make payments through the app itself – pretty neat and especially handy when you run out of cash and do not have a credit card either. The membership on the site as well as the iPhone app is free. However, since UberCab currently operates only limo service, you should be prepared to pay around 1.5x the cost of a taxi for your travel distance.
The app uses GPS to determine your exact pickup location and sends a request to drivers in geographical vicinity around that area. One of the drivers accepts your request and you can then provide the destination location. The driver notifies you of his arrival and once you’ve boarded the taxi, you can hit the ‘Begin trip’ button on your app to start the fare calculation process.
UberCab has setup this service for customers as well as drivers. So, while you start the trip, the driver uses his input to signal the end of the trip. You can then pay using the pre-authorized credit card that you input as part of your account configuration. Talk about technology improving our lives and UberCab is a perfect testimony to that. The app has already received a large number of positive reviews on Twitter and is quickly growing in popularity.
