Last year, Google showed off an upcoming Google Translate feature called Conversation Mode, which translates speech in real time, allowing two people who don't share a language to carry on a conversation. Conversation Mode has reached alpha, and it's part of the latest update to Google Translate for Android.
So far, Conversation Mode only works with English and Spanish, but compatibility with other languages is in the works. Also, keep in mind that this is still alpha software. Google warns that "regional accents, background noise or rapid speech" can trip it up. Conversation Mode isn't the only new feature in this Google Translate for Android update, either. The app has received a facelift, with improved dropdown boxes, a new layout, and new icons.
