Apple updates Safari, fixes annoying address bar behavior

Apple's latest update to Safari, Safari 5.0.3, fixes some Flash and JavaScript plug-in issues, but the most important fix can be found in the address bar. Yes, Apple has finally fixed the absolutely obnoxious behavior of Safari's address bar autocomplete, which used to suggest sites based on page titles and headlines rather than by URL. The address bar now prefers your bookmarked websites and previously visited URLs over arbitrary page titles and headlines, so typing "Apple" will get you Apple.com, instead of a Google results page from the last time you Googled "apple."

Our friends at TUAW tested out this new behavior, and they've got before and after screenshots of the address bar results from Safari 5.0.2 vs. Safari 5.0.3, in case you want to see the difference for yourself. You can get Safari 5.03 now, either by running Software Update or directly from Apple.com.
