Listary 2 adds "universal text editing" functionality and more

Listary is a quick-search utility that I first heard about back in February. Back then, I wasn't too impressed with it. However, Listary's developers have been hard at work, and they have recently released version 2.0 -- which has some nifty new features.

While I cannot find a change log listing all of the new features, at least one feature is certainly worthy of mention. You can now use Listary to send text to your favorite text editor from anywhere. So, for example, you can compose Gmail emails in Vim. The Gmail example may not be the best one -- since Firefox add-ons like It's All Text! have been around forever -- but it's definitely handy for other applications that offer plain text fields, which are not always nice to write in (like MS Access forms, for example).

One word of warning: do not use Listary's text editing functionality for Rich Text editing. That is to say if you have a Windows control that shows formatted text, do not try to edit it with your plain text editor using Listary. Listary would let you do that, but once you save your text and switch back to your original program, you will find that all formatting and images are gone from the text.

Other than this feature, Listary offers quick access to the Windows command line, hotkeys, autocompletion, and all sorts of other goodies. You can watch their how-to video after the jump.
