DeviantArt releases Muro -- a free, HTML5-powered painting app

DeviantArt releases Muro -- a free, HTML5-powered painting app

Filed under:

DeviantArt has always been a great place to share and discover digital art, and now the company is hoping its users will consider it a great place to create new works art as well. Today, they unveiled Muro -- a free painting app built using HTML5. Yep, if you've got any kind of a device with a modern, compatible web browser you can paint to your heart's content.
Muro has two modes, basic and pro. Basic shows only your canvas in the work area while pro presents a heads-up display and layer palette. Multiple layers are supported, of course, and there's also a progressive undo. In addition to six brushes with tweakable settings (like size, density, and opacity), Muro also offers an eraser, eyedropper, and flood fill, as well as more than twenty filters.

You can also collaborate with friends on Muro creations, and there are even more brushes available for purchase if you're so inclined. I won't torture you with my multi-colored scrawls -- have a look at some of the brilliant pieces in the Muro gallery to see what's possible.

Looking for a similar HTML5 app with a few more tools (like text)? Check out Mugtug's Sketchpad, which Jason wrote about previously.
