As covered by CNet, Apple has already developed the fix to circumvent the PDF exploit, that is utilized by JailbreakMe.
Apple spokeswoman said in a statement, “We’re aware of this reported issue, we have already developed a fix and it will be available to customers in an upcoming software update.”
There are two distinct vulnerabilities in the iPhone uncovered with the jailbreak software’s release, principal analyst Charlie Miller of Independent Security Evaluators told CNET Tuesday. One flaw is in the way the browser parses PDF files, enabling the code to get inside a protective sandbox, and the other hole allows code to break out of the sandbox and get root, or control, privileges on the device.
I am not sure when the security patch will be released. Also, I am not sure whether the fix will be bundled in iOS 4.1, which is currently in beta. Or Apple will roll out the fix as an independent update (probably known as iOS 4.0.2).
But one thing I am truly sure is that JailbreakMe will not work those iPhones with this security fix applied. So, here are a couple of things you need to take note:
- If you need jailbreaking or unlocking for iPhone, please remember not to upgrade the iOS, no matter the version is 4.0.2 or 4.1. Once your iPhone is upgraded and patched, JailbreakMe will no longer work for you.
- If you are planning to buy an iPhone 4, buy it now! Don’t wait. Apple may release the patch anytime and apply it to the next batch of iPhone 4 in the production line. To enjoy jailbreaking on iPhone 4, get it now.
